Be Thankful PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 03 August 2008 17:38

Have you ever considered that giving THANKS and being THANKFUL is a command of God (1 Thess. 5:16-18)?

Why not make a list of enlightening pastime things that impact the senses...It sharpens our appreciation of these golden moments in time.

For example, one person's list of favorite sounds: a mother talking to her new baby, the absolute silence of a mountain lake at sunset, the crackling fire on a bitter winter's day, the singing of the national anthem, the first time your child says "Mommy" and/or "Daddy", hearing the congregation singing Blest Be The Tie That Binds and so forth.

Now list some favorite things you see that bring pleasure to your heart: the face of the groom as he watches his bride walking down the aisle, a sunset or sunrise, returning soldiers to their families, a baptism, a 4th of July parade and then the fireworks, a senior citizen couple walking hand-in-hand and so forth.

God gave us 5 senses and then He filled His creation with pleasure for each sense.  God is exceedingly good all the time.

BE THANKFUL!

Getting High PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 27 July 2008 08:30

People will go to amazing lengths to get "high" or to "gratify the cravings of the sinful nature" (Eph. 2:3).  In 1994, says writer Gene Sloan in USA Today, undercover agent for the Arizona Department of Fish and Game arrested several people for toad licking - that's right, toad licking.

They had in their possession the Colorado River toad.  Found from the Mexican border to the Grand Canyon, it deters predators by secreting a milky white substance that includes a poerful drug classified as psychoactive under Arizona law.  Drug aficionados get high by either licking the toads directly or drying the secretion and then smoking it.  One Arizona official warned that the drug is "poisonous and dangerous." No Kidding?

Addiction to pleasure is a sinful condition that can lead a person to do any number of vile-even deadly-things.  Of course, there is good pleasure that is healthy, self-controlled and obedient to the revealed will of God.  Bad pleasure is self-indulgent, addictive and disobedient to God's will.

2 Timothy 3:1-5 "But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power.  Have nothing to do with them."

Please thing about it!

Silencing of God PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 July 2008 23:14

Please allow me to encourage you to take advantage of the Wednesday night study in the auditorium; Silencing of God, a dvd presentation of Dr. Dave Miller.  There are possible 2 or 3 sessions left for your consideration.  There is no doubt in my mind we know what the problems are in the USA.  The adult Sunday morning Bible classes have been studying the Christian world view the past several months learning how to live in our pagan society.  So what can we do about it?  Are there any solutions for us to change our culture?

There is no doubt in my mind that the solutions begin with me and my total commitment to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  The apostle Paul stated a principle of life that I need to apply to my own life in Philippians 3:16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.  In other words, put into practice the truth I already comprehended.  I (we) are responsible for the truth that I (we) currently possess.  Please continue to pray for courage to be proactive to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God as you live each day in His presence.

Please think about it!

Summer Olympics PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 July 2008 10:20

The Summer Olympics begins 08-08-08 in Beijing, China.  Recently, I saw an interview of a 2004, 6 gold & 2 bronze medal winner swimming, Michael Phelps.  What intrigued me was his training and practice schedule.  He practices his swimming four hours EVERY DAY including Sundays, Saturdays, holidays, his birthday, etc.  When asked by the tv interviewer about his goals in this year's Olympics, his only response was that he was looking forward to representing the USA again if he made the team and would do his very best for his country.

The word that came to my mind was COMMITMENT. Mr. Phelps is committed to putting himself 100% into the sport of swimming.  It there is an application for me, it is to look inside of my own heart and ask myself if I am that committed to the Lordship of Jesus in my life.  Am I putting into practice EVERYDAY the will of God in my life?  Or do I take "holidays?"  One way to define commitment is carrying out your decision to deny self, take your cross and follow Jesus after the mood in which you made that decision has left you.

Please think about it!

Freedom in Christ PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 30 June 2008 11:19

On Dec. 6, 1865, just months after the Civil War ended, the 13th amendment outlawing slavery was ratified and became the law of the land. But that didn’t mean every state approved the ratification of the amendment. Mississippi’s state legislature, for example, was dominated by whites bitter over the defeat of the Confederacy, and they rejected the measure. One hundred and thirty (130) years passed before Mississippi took action. By 1995 Mississippi was the only state in the Union that had not approved the ratification of the 13th amendment.

Finally, on Thursday, February 16, 1995, the Mississippi Senate voted unanimously to outlaw slavery by approving the ratification of the 13th amendment to the Constitution.

Senator Hillman Frazier, a member of Mississippi’s Legislative Black Caucus, said, “I think it’s very important for us to show the world that we have put the past behind us.”

Just as there was a delay in some states ratifying an end to slavery in the United States, so there is now a delay in some people accepting God’s kingdom. Whatever their reason for delaying to accept God’s invitation, there is still freedom in God’s kingdom. There is freedom from sin because of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection for those who are willing to believe and be baptized. Freedom from the wrath of God as a child of God. Freedom to worship God. Freedom to accept or reject God’s kingdom as the choice is yours.

Please think about it!
