Grief Ministry
Our grief ministry provides a "gift bag" of items at the time of a death in the immediate family.  We are in need of just about everything we put in the gift bags.  The items needed are:
Plasticware in boxes that have forks, spoons and knives in them.
Paper Plates in lots of 50 to a package (not expensive ones but strong enough).
Coffee in the smallest amount possible...1 lb or less.
Toilet paper in larger packages (we can divide it).
Paper towels - we can divide out of large packages.
Trash bags - we can divide out of large packages.
    Small hand soap dispenser.
    Boxes of Kleenex.
There is a bin in the Educational foyer for your donations.

For those of you who would like to help in the food preparation for this ministry but cannot prepare food to take to the family, we can always use cash donations to take of care of the items needed like chicken from KFC, bread or deli tray type items.  Please give your donations to Peggy Pettey or Shirley Reed. Thanks!

Mentoring Ministry
We had a good turnout for the mentoring supper last Monday night.  The next time we plan to meet, Lord willing, is on Monday night, September 15 at 6:30 in the Ministry Center.  If you are not part of this ministry but would like to be, please give Corrie Albright or me a call.  Our suppers together are very informal and our relationships are growing.

All Levy Ladies' Events
Ladies, please mark your calendars for Monday night, October 13th at 6:30 in the Ministry Center.  Watch for more info on the next Ladies' Event.  The date for our holiday party is Monday night, December 13th.

Ladies Brunch

The Ladies Brunch was delightful!  What a joy to be able to visit with you wonderful sisters and to share together the nuggets given to us by Marilyn Neal, Johnnie Cooper and Jennifer Carger.  Marilyn spoke to us about how getting "into Christ" is first and foremost.  Then she spoke of the freedoms we have "in Christ". She did the recipe for the prayer basket as well.

Miz Johnnie gave us some history of her and her family growing up "in Christ".  I was especially touched by her deep love for the church and her concerns as well.  Her great spirit of patriotism for our country spoke volumes to all of us.

Jennifer shows great wisdom for her age.  She talked to us about her concern for us all having the weight of too much stuff and too many activities in our lives.  She did an excellent job in depicting all the many roles we women have in life.  She also spoke to our need to evaluate just how much of this extra curricular stuff is taking too much time away from our family lives.

When we have the Saturday brunch or lunch, there is always a good balance of women of all ages.  It was a special treat to have Cornelia Reaves' neighbor, Debra Williams at my table.  Abbie Wilson said to me afterwards, "You know it's worth every bit of time and effort it takes to get to one of these."  I think all of the women that put the many hours in to prepare and have the events will tell you the same thing.

Okay, this is the way it is...Linda Peebles could easily be the next Food Network Star!  She outshined the best of the best.  She and her team of fine cooks really know how to set a table.  The food was a symphony of flavors.  Linda is someone who has taken her talent of food preparation and used it with her spiritual gift of encouragement and administration to serve God's people and others in very effective ways.  She is an excellant mentor in her gifted area.

Many thanks to all who, with God's help, made this get-together a success.  From those who provided "rides" to those who did the many necessary things to make it happen and to all who took the time and made the effort to come!

Mentoring Supper - Tomorrow Night

All of those who are in the mentoring ministry will meet tomorrow night in the Ministry Center for supper and a time of encouragement.  The time is 6:30.  The supper food has been assigned.  So if you were not assigned anything, you are all you need to bring!

Much love, to a loving group of ladies!

Suzanne

Ladies Brunch and More PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 July 2008 22:59

Since this article is written on Thursday before the Saturday brunch, I can't tell you what all happened yet...but I can tell you we have had a lot of women signed up to be there.  The ladies preparing for it are going "full stem ahead".  Prayers are being offered for God's ladies to be even more enriched from sharing God's Word together.  Hopefully, "nuggets" shared will help us all in our daily living.

Mentoring

Those involved in our mentoring ministry will meet on Monday, July 28 at 6:30 pm in the Ministry Center.  The meal assignments were worked out in our last meeting, so supper will be ready! Amy Bewley has set up our e-mailing group home (you know I don't know the computer lingo) and ideas are springing up to better enhance this ministry.  It's a good thing to help us grow together in Christ.

Comfort Food Ministry

Lots of work has gone into the planning and carrying out of this vital ministry.  Teams are set up to be on call.  Communication will be going out to each of you with information on your team and team leader.  Susan Koone and Stephanie Johnston are coordinators for the new mommies and families at birth.  Linda Peebles is the coordinator for food taken at time of illness and hospitalization and Peggy Pettey is coordinator for food at time of death in an immediate family.  Many of our Levy ladies have committed to helping us serve this church family of almost 700.

Putting the Word On Your Heart

This is one area that "remaining as a child" really serves me well.  Putting God's Word in my head and on my heart.  This week "in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path" has been mantra. (Proverbs 3:6)  That means all paths and all ways!  Even the ones that seem too minor to us to take to God.  Nothing is too small or too large for Him.  Whether our wounds are physical or emotional.  He is there for us.  His wisdom is available if we ask Him for it.

Here's the way i remember "In all thy ways acknowledge Him..." - remember the childhood song of "This is the way we wash our clothes, wash our clothes, wash our clothes"?  Years ago Garry had a sermon tape of someone who sang that verse with that song...sing it awhile and it will be in your head and on your heart.

With love,

Suzanne

Howdy-Do-Sir PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 19 July 2008 10:04

My grandmother would say "Now that's a real howdy-do-sir or it's no howdy-do-sir."  It was kind of her era's saying for "It's a good thing" or not.  Well, sirs and mams, if we look at it in the real sense of what it says, it's something always needed in our assemblies.  We need to be intentionally looking for visitors and welcoming them here.  This is kind of like the doctors say diabetes is... you can't take a break from seeing about it and expect everything to be in good shape when you decide to check back in.  For folks to feel like they will fit in here, they need to know we are glad to have them every time they come... many times it makes a difference in whether they come back or not.  As the old saying goes, "you can take that truth to the bank!"

Pause for Thought

Problems do not age gracefully!  That is my version of a discussion I heard on a business talk show recently.  It's given me much pause for thought and prayer.  Many times problems age badly on me because I have too much pride to ask for help.  I tend to beat around the bush and hope somebody reads my mind and offers help.  Whatever the reasons, may we all pray for the wisdom from God to find our solutions, then follow through (which includes asking for help if we need it).  Proverbs 1:7, "...fools despise wisdom and knowledge."  Ouch, that hurts!

I'm so glad to be here with all of you,

Love, Suzanne

Ladies' Brunch & Summer Garden Vines PDF Print E-mail

Ladies' Brunch Saturday, July 19th
Be sure and mark your calendars for the Ladies' Brunch on Saturday, July 19th.  Sign up sheets will be in the foyers and classrooms.  All food will be provided, so we need a count on the number coming.  Bring your Bibles and, if you would like, bring a friend; be sure to put her on the sign up sheet as well.  Our theme will be "Freedom in Christ".

Summer Garden Vines
My small garden and porch this year are what I call a summer wonderland.  Having made the decision to have my small space be the best it could be, I began my mission.  If you know me, you know that pink flowers are definitely the foundation of my garden theme.  Romantic, lacy, shabby chic... that's me and there is a world of ideas in flowers and garden art to carry out that theme.  I had it all together except I really wanted a sweet smelling, lacy, white vine... a white star jasmine vine.  It fit all the criteria.  Just the one I wanted was in temporary residence at Home Depot.  Cornelia Reaves, my sister gardener, and I picked it out in the middle of a pouring down rain and brought it home to live on my porch.

This summer garden and finding the vine could be called a "spiritual experience" for me because it has really made me think and study about the Master as the Vine...The Lord being the Master Gardner of my life and all the many paths of thought that takes me down.  Being so careful in picking just the right, healthy, sturdy vine that could support the branches as they climbed up that trellis was important to me and was dipictive in a small way of how The Vine supports everything about my life and my decisions in life.

Getting up at daybreak is the most serene time for me to defend my garden...watering it to withstand the heat, pruning it to enable it to produce more flowers and defending it from its enemies, the creepy crawlers.  you know what, that's also the bets time to defend myself against the enemy through prayer, study of God's word and letting the Spirit lead in my life.  It turns into a much nicer day that way for me and my flowers.

With much love,
Suzanne
